The mission of TipsFromKids.com and Tips from Kids, LLC, involves advice and insight FROM kids FOR adults. Clearly, this mission is all about the gathering and sharing of beneficial information. While we are supportive of the interactive nature of the World Wide Web and the Internet, we strive to educate adults and kids about how to appropriately safeguard their privacy when online. TipsFromKids.com is committed to complying fully with C.O.P.P.A., the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998.  We urge all kids to check with their parents or guardians before entering any information on any website, and we urge all parents to discuss with their kids appropriate restrictions regarding the online transfer of personal information to anyone they don't know.

First: We don't gather and retain information that identifies you, unless you specifically ask us to do so.

[3] Definitions:

Parent: When we use the term "parent" below, we mean to include legal guardians.

Information: All information gathered online generally falls into one of these two broad categories:
1. Personally-Identifiable Information, and
2. Non-Personally-Identifiable Information.

Personally-Identifiable Information: When this Privacy Policy uses the term "Personally-Identifiable Information," we mean information that identifies a particular individual, such as the individual's name (not just a first name), postal mailing address, e-mail address, and telephone number.  When other information (such as, for example, a person’s age) is directly associated with Personally-Identifiable Information, this other information also is treated as Personally-Identifiable Information for purposes of this Privacy Policy. Personally-Identifiable Information is sometimes referred to in this Privacy Policy as "personal information."

Non-Personally-Identifiable Information: When this Privacy Policy uses the term "Non-Personally-Identifiable Information," we mean all information not defined as Personally-Identifiable Information.

TipsFromKids.com: This Privacy Policy applies to TipsFromKids.com and any other site owned and/or operated by or on behalf of Tips From Kids, LLC, or any of its subsidiaries (the websites and entities collectively referred to herein as the “Website” and "TipsFromKids.com" and "TipsFromKids.org" and "Tips from Kids" and “we” and “us” and “our”).

[4a] Non-Personally-Identifiable Information

Through TipsFromKids.com, one may choose to provide information as part of various online activities such as the following:

  • express an opinion
  • vote in a poll
  • participate in a survey or questionnaire
  • make a suggestion

As part of the above information-gathering activities, Non-Personally-Identifiable Information may be requested or required. This may include the respondent’s age, state or province, country of residence, gender, or the number of kids or adults living in the same household.

We also may collect certain Non-Personally-Identifiable Information when you visit many of our web pages such as the type of browser you are using, the type of operating system you are using, and the domain name of your Internet service provider.

[4b] Personally-Identifiable Information

Much of the Personally-Identifiable Information we may receive comes directly from those who are interested in obtaining various messages, products and services from TipsFromKids.com.  Through TipsFromKids.com, one may choose to provide information as part of the following activities:

  • request information
  • order a product or service
  • participate in a sweepstakes or contest
  • subscribe to a publication or newsletter

For all of the above activities, one is asking TipsFromKids.com for something, such as a prize, a requested newsletter, an ordered product, etc. As part of the above activities, Personally-Identifiable Information is required, allowing us to satisfy that request. The types of Personally-Identifiable Information that may be collected for these and other activities include, but are not limited to: name, e-mail address, mailing address, telephone number, fax number, and credit card information.

In some instances, one can submit information about other people. For example, one might submit a person's name and e-mail address to send an electronic message to a friend and, if you order a gift online or offline and want it sent directly to the recipient, you might submit the recipient's name and address. The types of personally identifiable information that may be collected about other people at these pages include: recipient's name, mailing address, e-mail address, and telephone number.

[5] How Information is Used:

We may use the information you provide about yourself to fulfill your requests for our services, programs, and products, and to respond to your inquiries.

We sometimes use this information to communicate with you, such as to notify you when you have won one of our contests or sweepstakes, or to fulfill a request by you for an online newsletter or other information.

If you choose to submit content for publication (e.g., comments about a topic), you may also choose to provide and we may choose to publish your name, age, screen name, and other information you have provided to us. (For children under age 13, we apply additional restrictions to the way information is used. See “Children’s Privacy” in Section [7] below.)

We may use the Non-Personally-Identifiable Information that we collect to improve the functionality, design and content of our websites and publications and to enable us to personalize your Internet experience. We also may use this information in the aggregate to analyze the usage and performance of TipsFromKids.com.

We use the information that you provide about others to enable us to send them your message or other information. As part of the “Send To A Friend” function, we may give you the opportunity to tell your friends about TipsFromKids.com and send your friends information you’ve selected from TipsFromKids.com. If you take advantage of these features, we may ask you for your friend's and your name and e-mail address. We use the information you provide only to send the e-mail you requested we forward, and we do not retain this information after the e-mail has been forwarded.

We will disclose information when required to do so by law, for example, in response to a subpoena or a court order. We also may disclose such information in response to a request from a law enforcement agency.

Suppliers, contractors and agents of Tips from Kids, LLC, who have access to any Personally-Identifiable Information are required to protect that information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy by, for example, not using the information for any purpose other than to conduct the services they are performing for Tips from Kids, LLC.

Although we take appropriate measures to help safeguard against unauthorized disclosures of information, we cannot assure you that Personally-Identifiable Information will never be disclosed in a manner inconsistent with this Privacy Policy. Inadvertent disclosures may result, for example, when a third party misrepresents their identity in asking for access to Personally-Identifiable Information about themselves for purposes of correcting possible factual errors in their data.

[7] Children’s Privacy:

Everyone's privacy is very important to us, especially children’s, and we are committed to safeguarding children's personal information collected online, and to helping parents and their children learn how to exercise appropriate control over personal information while exploring the World Wide Web and the Internet. Therefore, we have taken additional measures to tailor our content to help protect children’s privacy while online.

There are many activities on TipsFromKids.com that children can participate in and enjoy without having to share Personally-Identifiable Information.

For those activities that require Personally-Identifiable Information, such as contests and sweepstakes, in compliance with the Federal Trade Commission's C.O.P.P.A. (The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), TipsFromKids.com will not condition a child's participation in an activity on that child disclosing more Personally-Identifiable Information than is reasonably necessary to administer the activity. For certain online activities, we may require verifiable parental consent before collecting or using Personally-Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. With these activities, TipsFromKids.com will notify the respective parent of our Privacy Policy and obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting Personally-Identifiable Information from the child, unless we collect only the child's name and online contact information to: (1) obtain parental consent or provide parents with notice; (2) respond directly on a one-time basis to a child's specific request; (3) respond more than once to a child's specific request along with providing parental notice of such use; (4) protect the safety of a child; or (5) comply with legal requirements. When we provide parents with notice and/or seek consent, we also give parents the ability to let us know if they do not want any further use made of the Personally-Identifiable Information we have collected from their child. Parents can request to review or have deleted their child's Personally-Identifiable Information from TipsFromKids.com's records, and refuse to permit further use of a child's Personally-Identifiable Information by writing to us at: Tips from Kids, LLC, P.O. Box 16, Andover MA 01810-0016, RE: Parent's Request for Information. (Please print clearly, and be sure to include enough information to allow us to address your request: child’s and your name and e-mail address, and your mailing address and signature.) Parents can also print, complete and return this letter to the specified address.

Unless we indicate otherwise and obtain prior parental consent, Personally-Identifiable Information collected from children under the age of 13 will be used solely by Tips from Kids, LLC, or our contractors or agents for internal purposes (such as sweepstakes administration and services related to the operation of our site) and will not be sold or otherwise transferred to third parties.

It is Tips from Kids, LLC's policy never to post on its site more than a child's first name, state or province, and age or grade.
